Buying a Spa Bath?

  • What is the pump position of my Spa Bath?
This is a very important question because spas are most often made to order so they are customized to suit your needs. Once you have chosen the pump position of your spa bath the spa is then fitted to suit the specified requirements to suit your home. At the point of sale Swan will ask you to fill out an order form with a diagram of a spa with different pump position options. If you are unsure of where the pump should be positioned on your spa ask your plumber or builder to help you. Spa manufacturers will rarely, if ever, provide a refund or exchange if they have fitted a spa to the client’s requirements and the plumbing turns out to be wrong.

Buying a Basin?

  • How many tap holes do I need?
When you order your basin keep in mind that you have a choice of how many tap holes you would like in you basin depending on the tapware you have decided on. If the tapware that is going onto the basin is a mixer tap you will require a 1 tap hole basin whereas if the taps are traditional taps with two handles and a spout you will require a 3 tap hole basin.

Buying Tapware?

  • How far do I want my spout to come out from the wall, sink or basin?
This may seem very trivial but a lot of people choose their tap ware, install it and then realise that the spout only just reaches the lip of their bath or basin and once something has been installed then you have no chance of changing it without a cost!

  • Should I use mixers or tap sets (i.e. two handles and a spout)?
The answer to this question largely depends on your own tastes and preferences. Mixers are more popular for new homes these days than tap sets are and there is a larger variety of mixers available but that is not to say that three tap sets wouldn’t be suitable in a new bathroom. Both mixers and tap sets have a very wide variety of styles to suit any bathroom. Some issues to consider when buying tapware include:
    1. The water pressure in your area – if it is particularly high or low it may affect the tapware that you can use. Your plumber should be able to advise you if you have an issue with your water pressure.
    2. Whether water saving is a particular concern for you – basin and sink tapware now all have water ratings so you can easily see the star rating and the amount of water that they use.
    3. If someone with arthritis will be using the taps. In this case it is important to make sure that you buy taps that are easy to turn on and off and require minimal movement in the hand and fingers.

These tips are just a few to get you started, make sure you do your homework, speak to the showroom consultants at Swan Plumbing Supplies or Swan Homebase for any advice and make sure you always use a licensed plumber!
